Executive Director, WSP
Jeffrey Smilow, PE, F.ASCE, USA Director of Building Structures, is responsible for all building structures operations throughout the USA. He is also an integral member of the WSP I Parsons Brinkerhoff Buildings Leadership Team that oversees all building related engineering disciplines.
Mr. Smilow began his career with WSP in 1984. He has over 38 years of experience in structural engineering, with an extensive background in the design and renovation of a wide range of steel and concrete structures. He has designed high rise structures in both steel and concrete framing systems, long span steel structures, stadium structures and renovations of existing structures.
In the course of his career, Mr. Smilow has developed a portfolio of high profile projects including the World Trade Center Tower Three, Columbia University Manhattanville, and the Citi Field New York Mets Stadium among many others. His work was instrumental in renovating treasured landmarks such as the Plaza Hotel and Grand Central Terminal.
Mr. Smilow was one of the structural engineers tapped by the ASCE/FEMA committee investigating the response of buildings to the collapse of the World Trade Center and participated in the New York City Building Department Committee providing recommendations on the implementation of the new NYC building code.
He has contributed to various professional journals such as Modern Steel, Structural Steel Today and Civil Engineering Magazine. Many of his buildings have been featured in diverse industry publications.
Mr. Smilow is a graduate of City College and a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He is a professional engineer in 6 states.
